CA Beer Society and Napa Smith Brewery Team Up To Support Local Youth Rugby Club
December 20th, 2013
Grab a partner and get those throwing arms warmed-up, because the California Beer Society and Napa Smith Brewery are hosting a unique fundraiser to benefit the Napa Stormers Youth Rugby Club.
On Saturday February 1st, 64 two-person teams will go head to head in a double elimination corn hole tournament, to help raise funds for the Stormers, a second year youth rugby team from the Napa Valley. In addition to the main event, there will also be silent auctions, raffles, music, food trucks, and even a kids area to make the event a family friendly, all-inclusive day.
The California Beer Society, the presenters of this event, have been putting on similar corn hole tournaments for the last 2 years, all to benefit a charity of their choice. The last event held at Black Diamond Brewery in October, was a smashing success with a sold-out 45 teams, and over 200 in attendance raising $1000 and over 400lbs of canned goods for the Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano. “Our goal is to get together, drink some great beer, and raise money for a good cause” said CABS President Joe K. “Once we heard the Stormers were looking for a unique way to raise funds, we were excited to team up with Napa Smith and help these kids out”.
Napa Smith Brewery was very eager to get on board and host the charity event for the Stormers. “Corn hole, good beer, and good people? This is right up our alley” said Napa Smith’s Taproom Manager, Chris Wishart. “We’re excited to host such a fun event at our brewery, and to raise money for a local youth organization? Even better.” The event will take place at Napa Smith Brewery, located on Executive Drive, off of Highway 29. There will be music, beer specials, and plenty of stiff competition.
The Stormers Vice President and Assistant Coach, Trevor Terrill, attended the CABS’s last tournament at Black Diamond, and was blown away by the event. “It was not only well executed from an event standpoint, but the competition was fierce, and everyone was having such a good time.” , said Terrill. “I approached the beer society about bringing this event to Napa, because the Stormers organization was trying to figure out a unique, and fun way to raise money for the team. Everyone in town does a wine and dinner event, and we wanted to do something fun, and interactive… like rugby!”
These three organizations encourage everyone to come out for the fun-filled day, to help raise money, and bring awareness that rugby is growing in the Napa Valley. Even if you decide not to partake in the tournament, there will be plenty of ways to offer your support to the club. A silent auction will be taking place, with some pretty exciting lots focused on both locals and tourists attending the event. “Even if you can't commit to playing, come on down and check out the event, drink some stellar beers, bid on an auction item, and hang out with your friends… its going to be a great time”, said the Stormers coach.
You can register online for the tournament, and learn more about the event at www.napastormers.com. Registration is only $25 per team of two, and 100% of the proceeds go the Stormers Rugby Club. You are encouraged to sign up early, because the tournament is capped at 64 teams, and will sell out fast. Sponsorship opportunities are available for the event, by contacting the Stormers via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
